  • Website for an Intro to Germanic Linguistics course -- Proto-Germanic, Proto-Indo-European language reconstructions, comparative method, etc. http://gmc.jimwitte.com. Jan 2014.
  • Lightweight content management system for displaying photos and videos in carousels. Vimeo integration. 2013.
  • Created a course evaluation instruments and workflow for LAS Online, our online/distance learning initiative. Combined with our instruc- tional design checklist (below), this has helped keep LAS Online courses consistently high quality in terms of instructional design. Project start: Jan 2010.
  • Developed instructional design checklist, the definition of a well-defined online course for LAS Online, and developed a process for apply- ing the checklist and producing useful reports for our instructional designers and instructors to be used for course launch and future course improvements. Project start: May 2010.
  • Developed Online Placement exams using Moodle LMS. Funded in part by a Title VI area studies grant, I worked with our Moodle team to put a separate instance of Moodle in place for placement testing purposes. We are now doing placement testing for Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Latin, Physics, Chemistry, French, German, and are providing the same service previously provided by an external vendor, but now at lower cost, and in a more scalable manner.   • Deployed Student Portfolio System (Mahara). The portfolio project is intended to facilitate portfolio-based assessment of student work, and program assessment. Researched options and coordinated deployment, help with assessment. Project start: 2008
  • Deployed Web publishing/Content management (Zope/Silva) to facilitate an editorial workflow and dynamic content for the ATLAS public website. Dramatically improved our capability to manage multiple authorship on a large, information-rich service organization website. Identified needs, investigated options, coordinated deployment, and act as chief editor of website. Project start: 2006.
  • Deployed Ticket system to facilitate service request workflow for all ATLAS service groups. Has radically improved ability to track and re- spond to service requests, and track work costs. Researched options, coordinated deployment. Project start: 2006.
  • Deployed Moodle Learning Management System. Instructors use Moodle to distribute course materials, conduct online discussions, ad- minister quizzes. Coordinated deployment and service support, developed service specifications. We have since hired a full-time LMS ad- min - I am the backup Moodle LMS service administrator. Project start: 2005
  • Deployed Content Management System (Segue). Enables public or private websites, blogs, podcasts for instructional/research purposes, allocated on a per-user basis. Available to all University of Illinois students, staff, and instructors. Project start: May 2004
  • Web-based Collaborative Writing App. A database-driven web application to help out with collaborative writing projects. Similar to threaded-discussion environments like nntp newsgroups, webboard, first-class, but designed to make it easy for the teacher to carefully structure student contributions. 1999.
